Fundraiser to Benefit At-Risk Populations
Focus on Teens with Cancer, Elder Care and Post-traumatic Stress Victims
Rochester, NY-- Centering For Wellness, a Brighton-based not-for-profit, is holding its first annual fundraising event, “An Afternoon In The Park,” which will support initiatives for teens with cancer, elder-care and post-traumatic stress victims.
It will be held on Saturday, February 27th from 11:30am to 3:00pm at Carmen Clark Lodge, 777 Westfall Road, Rochester, NY 14620. Charitable contributions are $20.00 in advance, $23.00 at the door.
The fundraiser will consist of a Chili Lunch, live music by Millennium Americana Folk Duo, The Rhodedendrons (Anna Price and Matt Rhodes, formerly of award winning Boston band, The Silver Lining) Beth Price and Rachel Benjamin, members of NYC's up coming and bluegrass act, The Havens, and local Chanteuse, and her partner/husband, acclaimed Singer and Musician - the international touring sensation, "Sam& Nanci".
There will be a silent auction, including donations from local artists and writers, Reiki treatments, massages, manicures, and gift cards from Wegmans and Loris Natural Foods.
Contributions will support the programming of Centering for Wellness including, a Geriatric Nursing Leadership Initiative to improve compassionate, integrative care of the elderly; Holistic Healing Practices to Resolve Post-Traumatic Stress; and Meditative Healing Practices in Palliative Care – in particular teens with cancer.
“These uniquely integrative educational programs now combine self-help and holistic practices that empower these populations, while also helping to restore compassionate team building among care givers, and relieving some of that stress when dealing with end of life issues,” said Marjorie Baker Price, psychiatric nurse clinician, founder and executive director of Center for Wellness, Inc.
Centering for Wellness, a 501(c)(3), has already received funding through the Polisseni Foundation to begin educational programming for teens with cancer at Melissa’s Living Legacy/Teens Living with Cancer, Al Sigl Center.
The organization's mission is to provide grassroots self-care for innovative wellness solutions to promote individual well-being, increase self-responsibility and sustain healthy lifestyle and coping responses within a variety of healthcare, educational, and community outreach settings.

Centering for Wellness' Founder and President Marjorie Baker Price, RN, is a psychiatric nurse with over 9 years of experience at the University of Rochester Medical Center Strong Memorial Hospital specializing in behavioral inpatient, community mental health, chronic care and emergency psychiatric care. She has coordinated psychiatric and hospice discharge planning and patient care for rural community health. In addition, she has developed stress management and recovery programs for a new outpatient alcoholism treatment center. She has taught at the State University of New York College at Brockport School of Nursing, Nazareth College Center for Lifelong Learning and St. John Fisher College community education center. Since 1987, she has presented numerous staff development seminars through her current integrated private practice, on relaxation, visualization, hypnosis, therapeutic journaling, and Reiki. She has presented at Planned Parenthood, the Red Cross, the American Heart Association, the Brighton Teacher Center, the Jewish Home and Infirmary, the New York State Nurses Association, and the International American Imagery Conference, among others. She has authored a nationally acclaimed series of audio guided meditation and self-hypnosis recordings as well as several related books and self-study courses. She was a featured columnist with Nature's Wisdom magazine on counseling and integrated health topics. Marjorie presents numerous related workshops on self-healing, wellness, recovery therapies, goal achievement, creative expression and empowerment, as well as counseling and consulting for individuals and small groups. She is a sought after public speaker and makes radio and television appearances. In addition, Ms. Price is also a Certified Hypnotherapist and Level III Reiki Master.
